crcCARE – GHD Peter Nadebaum Award for Excellence

Dr Nadebaum, a Senior Technical Director of GHD, worked for more than 40 years’ in contaminated land assessment and remediation. His depth of experience spans health and environmental risk assessment, environmental management of industrial facilities, industrial waste and wastewater treatment, air emission assessment and design of air pollution control systems, environmental impact assessment, and statutory approvals for establishing new facilities. He has published and presented more than 200 papers.

Dr Nadebaum was the founder and inaugural President of the Australasian Land and Groundwater Association (ALGA) and was a founding member and former Director of the Cooperative Research Centre for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment (CRC CARE). Dr Nadebaum has had a long involvement supporting sustainable remediation, he was a founding member of SuRF ANZ and was involved in the development of ISO 18504 (Sustainable remediation) which is now also an Australian Standard.

Dr Nadebaum’s contribution to the contaminated land assessment and remediation profession, the industry and the environment is unparalleled. In recognition of his contribution, crcCARE-GHD are initiating Peter Nadebaum Award and inviting nominations.


Celebrating Innovation and Leadership in Environmental Sciences:  crcCARE – GHD Peter Nadebaum Award for Excellence


Award Purpose

The Peter Nadebaum Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional technical and educational contributions to the field of contamination assessment, remediation, and management. This prestigious award is open to professionals, consultants, students, and academics who have shown thought leadership and innovative solutions to real-world environmental challenges.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Professional Standing: Open to all levels of professionals, including consultants, students, and academics.
  • Field of Expertise: Must be actively engaged in the field of contamination, assessment, remediation, and management
  • Contributions: Demonstrated excellence in technical achievements, educational endeavors, or both.
  • Industry Impact: Made significant contributions to the industry through research, publications, or practical applications.
  • Innovation: Showcased technical innovation in their approach to solving environmental issues.
  • Thought Leadership: Recognized as a thought leader, influencing the direction and understanding of the field.


Nomination Process

  • Open Nominations: Nominations can be submitted by peers, mentors, or self-nomination.
  • Supporting Documentation: A detailed account of the nominee’s contributions, including any relevant work samples, publications, or testimonials.


Selection Criteria

  • Relevance: The relevance of the nominee’s work to current environmental challenges.
  • Originality: The originality and creativity of the technical solutions provided.
  • Impact: The tangible impact of the nominee’s work on the industry and the environment.
  • Presentation Skills: The ability to effectively communicate complex ideas, making them a suitable candidate to present at international conferences.


Judging Panel

A panel of distinguished professionals and academics in the field will review all nominations and select the award recipient based on the outlined criteria.
